[Hong Kong, 2 March, 2024] ─ Presented by the Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Department (HKACED) and SF&OC Sports Legacy Company Limited (SLCL) of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), and with the venues sponsored by Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Citywalk and Olympian City of the Sino Group, the Annual Event will be held from February 29 to March 17 to build hype for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games and the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China.
The event aims to keep the sports fever alive and allow the public to meet Hong Kong athletes and to know more about their strongest supporter– the HKACED team, so as to encourage the public to continue support and participate in sports activities, and develop their passion for sports. The event is filled with colorful activities including five sports experience areas, athletes’ demonstrations and sharing, plus souvenir redemption and more. The public can enjoy the all-round fun of sports, making it a must go for families with kids.
Mr. Edgar YANG, PDSM, Honorary Secretary General of SF&OC, Prof. Herman HU, GBS, JP, Chairman of HKACED Committee, Mr. WONG Po Kee, MH, Honorary Deputy Secretary General of SF&OC, Mr. WONG Tak Sum, Sam, MH, Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Tony CHOI, MH, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), Hon Vincent CHENG Wing-shun, MH, JP, Hon Joephy CHAN Wing-yan and Hon Benson LUK Hon-man, members of the Legislative Council, Mr. CHENG Ka-ho, MH, JP, HKACED Committee member and event Chairperson, and Ms. Andrea LEUNG, Group General Manager (Marketing) of Sino Group, attended the opening ceremony of the Event at Tuen Mun Town Plaza. A host of current and former members of Hong Kong, China delegation, including cyclists Ms. Ceci LEE Sze-wing, Ms. YANG Qianyu, and Mr. YEUNG Ying-hon, Ronald, wushu athletes Mr. Samuel HUI Tak-yan and Ms. Juanita MOK Uen-ying, rope skipper Ms. SO Wing-yee, and Ms. NG Chi Ching, gymnast Mr. Kelvin NG Kiu-chung, track and field athletes Ms. Christy YIU Kit-ching and Mr. CHAN Ka-ho, Judo athlete Ms. TSUI Shuk-ki, fencing athletes Mr. Antonio LAM Hin-chung and Ms. Iris LAM Hin-wai as well as rower Ms. CHEUNG Hoi-lam, also attended. The athletes also provided sports demonstrations and shared their experience, inspiring children to love sports, to chase their dreams and to continue exercising.
Mr. YANG said, “It is the year for Paris Olympic Games, and with the National Games which will be cohosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau next year, mega sports events are piling up to create some fiercest atmosphere, SF&OC shall promote sports for all vigorously and to unite our community.”
Prof. HU said, “Since the establishment of HKACED, it has always been the strongest supporter of our athletes, and we had assisted more than 1,000 athletes in total. By providing employment, education, life skills and consulting services support to athletes, they can pursue their Olympic dreams without worries and bring glory to the city.
“Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Department Annual Event” will be held at Phase 1 Plaza of Tuen Mun Town Plaza from February 29 to March 4, Phase 1 Atrium of Citywalk from March 6 to 11, and the Event Hall of Olympian City 2 from March 13 to 17. The event will be opened from noon to 8:00 pm with five sports experience areas, challenging your speed, reflex, agility, strength, skills, vision, balance and concentration. Gifts, including luggage belt, eco bag, towel and sticky notes etc, will be ready for game challengers’ redemption. There is a neon light photo spot with some fun facts about HKACED and SLCL is also worth a visit.
