"All for Sports, Legacy for All" Celebration
Gathering Athletes to Promote the Olympic Spirit
[Hong Kong, March 26, 2023] - The " All for Sports, Legacy for All " Celebration Ceremony, presented by the Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Programme (HKACEP) under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL), was successfully held in Hong Kong Disneyland today. The event aimed to unite athletes who have contributed to the Hong Kong sports industry, promote the Olympic spirit to the community, and inject vitality into the city by advocating for post-pandemic sports for all. Over 400 athletes, friends, and members of the Hong Kong Olympic Fan Club (OFC) participated in the event, and several Legislative Council members attended to show their support.
To reflect the theme of " All for Sports, Legacy for All," the organizer set up physical fitness challenge, Taekwondo, and Muay Thai experience classes, all taught by former Hong Kong national team athletes from the HKACEP Sports Legacy Team. Through sports legacy, the participants can experience sports for all.
In addition, the event invited former Asian Champion Cyclist Mr. WONG Kam Po and Ms. Hayley Victoria CHAN, Hong Kong windsurfing athlete who competed in the Tokyo Olympics, to share their experience and career transformation with more than 40 OFC members and families from Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service- Hong Kong. The athletes hoped that their stories and experience would bring inspirations to participants and set a good example for children, encouraging them to be persevering in chasing their dreams fearlessly.
At the celebration, Mr. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC, said: "HKACEP will officially be renamed as Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Department on 1 April, providing more comprehensive support for athletes’ career transformation. We will also strengthen our promotion efforts to unite athletes and raise public awareness of HKACEP services."
Mr. Michael MORIARTY, Managing Director of HKDL, said "HKDL has always supported sports and youth development, and strongly believes that people with various abilities can be connected by sports, promoting social inclusion." He also announced that HKDL will sponsor the HKACEP's Sports Legacy Scheme for a second year, providing sports training and promoting Olympism to more than 100 local and ethnic minority youth from the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong.
Participants can also submit short films to take part in the "All for Sports, Legacy for All" video competition and promote HKACEP, OFC, and the Olympic spirit, with a chance to win exciting prizes!
