2017 Olympism Camp

Jointly organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (HKSI), the Closing Ceremony of the 2017 Olympism Camp was officially held on 21st July 2017 at the Tai Tam Scout Centre. Officiating guests included Mr. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), Mr YEUNG Tak-keung JP, Commissioner for Sports for Home Affairs Bureau, Mrs Jenny FUNG MA Kit-han BBS JP, Director of Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) and Prof. Frank FU, MH, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Olympic Academy.

A new event format was launched for 2017 Olympism Camp, apart from the young athletes from 7 elite sports, student athletes who have participated in “Olympism Education Programme” and “Sports Legacy Scheme” also joined this meaningful camp. The new arrangement offered valuable opportunity for the student athletes to meet and learn from the elite athletes, whilst elite athletes were also given an opportunity to act as role models and ambassadors to inspire the student athletes through demonstrating their devotion towards sports and sharing of their experiences.  

“Olympic Journey”, theme of the 2017 Olympism Camp, offered a mock experience of the whole Olympic Games and delivered the 3 Olympism Values, including “Excellence”, “Friendship” and “Respect”, through various interactive games, team activities, sharing sessions, anti-doping and media interview workshops during the 3-day residential camp. 

Mr. Timothy FOK, President of SF&OC, wished that all the participating athletes could demonstrate the 3 Olympic Values during their daily training and in competitions and to promote sports to general public and motivate others to participate in sports. 

Mrs. Jenny FUNG, Board Director of HKSI, wished that the participants could learn and experience the Olympic Values from the mock Olympic Games and cultivate the Values as their philosophy of life.
 

Event brief:

The Olympism Camp is one of the highlighted events jointly organized by SF&OC and HKSI in promoting Olympism and Olympic values, aimed at inculcating athletes the core values of Olympism and further assimilating them into their daily lives. The first Olympism Camp, held in February 2013, was concluded with positive responses from all the parties concerned including athletes, coaches, respective NSAs and Home Affairs Bureau.
