SF&OC Sports Legacy Presents Summer Sports Carnival to Inspire Children’s Interest in Sports and Promote the Olympic Spirit

Presented by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), SF&OC Sports Legacy Company Limited, and the Youth Olympians Programme; supported by strategic and sponsoring partner, Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation, venue sponsor, Olympian City of Sino Group, and Yau Tsim Mong District Office, the "Summer Sports Carnival" takes place for four consecutive days at Olympian City 2 from 13 to 16 July, 2023. The event aims to inspire children's interest in sports, fostering their confidence and well-being, while promoting the Olympic spirit and disseminating sports knowledge to the community, and injecting vitality into the city.

 

Mr. Timothy FOK GBM, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC, Prof. Herman HU, GBS, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Department (HKACED) Committee and Ms. Joey CHU, Assistant District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong), and Ms. Andrea LEUNG, Group General Manager (Marketing) of Sino Group, attended the opening ceremony of the Carnival. Serving and retired members of the Hong Kong team representatives such as former cyclist LEE Wai Sze, artistic gymnast SHEK Wai Hung, the Sports Legacy team members artistic gymnast NG Kiu Chung and breakdancer TSANG Tsz Wa (B-Boy Think) have been invited to demonstrate their specialities and inspire the children with their experience, ignite their passion for sports, and empower students to develop perseverance and courage to pursue their dreams.

 

Mr. FOK said, "We are excited to launch this event with the aim of promoting a post-pandemic community-wide sports campaign. Our goal is to encourage everyone to develop a regular exercise routine, embrace the joy of physical activities, and rally together in support of Hong Kong athletes as they compete in the upcoming major sports events. Let's stand united and cheer on the Hong Kong, China Delegation together! With just over two months remaining until the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games, scheduled for 23rd September, this year's Hong Kong, China Delegation will be the largest ever, showcasing our athletes' remarkable talents. Notably, some coaches from the Sports Legacy team will also be participating in the Asian Games, further exemplifying their commitment. To inspire the public and rally support for our Hong Kong athletes, SF&OC has launched the 'Road to Hangzhou Asian Games' series on YouTube and social media platforms. Throughout the Asian Games, we will closely follow the latest updates on the Hong Kong, China Delegation, sharing captivating stories of our local athletes. Additionally, we will provide comprehensive and exciting event information for the public."

 

Prof. HU said, "The Youth Olympians Programme, launched in September last year, has already benefited 10 primary schools with over 600 students. Additionally, 52 athlete coaches from 26 different sports disciplines have conducted a series of engaging and inspiring physical activities for the beneficiary schools. These activities include Little Ambassadors, Athletes Meet and Greet, specialized sports classes, and more. Through these initiatives, students not only have the opportunity to engage in sports but also cultivate positive values. Parents are also encouraged to participate in parent-child sports activities, fostering stronger bonds with their children. Furthermore, the schools receive diverse sports resources, further enhancing their sports culture within the campus. Simultaneously, athlete coaches gain valuable practical experience, creating a win-win situation for students, parents, schools, and athletes alike."

 

Ms. CHIU Chit Ling, Principal of Free Methodist Mei Lam Primary School said, "Sports is indispensable in children's growth and development. The professional coaches provided by the "The Youth Olympians Programme" not only improve students' sports ability, but also broaden their horizons."

 

As one of the key projects of the Youth Olympians Programme, Summer Sports Carnival aims to develop students' interest in sports, promote an active lifestyle and empower them with Olympic values and sports knowledge through sports and educational activities.

 

The "Summer Sports Carnival" that takes place at Olympian City 2 from 12pm to 8pm for four consecutive days presents a series of exciting and fun activities, including 5 major sports experience zones, sports demonstrations and sharing, exhibition and souvenir redemptions. This is undoubtedly the best family programme for summer holidays and weekends, designed to inspire children's athletic potential and interest.
