Athletes Going Beyond the Sportsground: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China partners with Adecco Hong Kong for continued athlete career development

The “Adecco Support Services Participation Agreement Signing Ceremony” officiated by Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and Mr. Patrick GLENNON, Adecco Senior Vice President of International Olympic Committee Athlete Career Programme (IOC ACP), was held on Monday, 5 September 2016 afternoon at Regal Hong Kong Hotel. This joint collaboration among IOC ACP, Adecco Hong Kong and the Federation would lead to a new stage of the local athletes career programme in coming 4 years.

 

Athletes inspire and excite the world with their outstanding performance on the field of play – and they are so much more than that. Seeing their commitment to always go for an extra mile, their ability to work as a team and also their can-do attitude, SF&OC, IOC ACP and Adecco Hong Kong are determined to facilitate the integration of elite athletes into the labour market. It fosters a dialogue among business, non-profit organisations and government on the importance of transitioning athletes into the next phase of their career, ensuring their success beyond sports.

 

Since 2005, the IOC in cooperation with the Adecco Group, has been providing expertise around education, life skills, career development and job placement, to help elite athletes successfully transition into the workforce.

 

Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC, thanked the support of IOC ACP and Adecco Hong Kong and expressed that, “This agreement is now to move our local athlete career programme a step forward to build a stronger and firmer commitment and bonding to provide an all-round career support to benefit more athletes upon their post-athletic career transformation! With the knowledge and expertise of IOC ACP and Adecco Hong Kong, we can assure a high quality of human resources and job matching service will be provided to our athletes.”

About Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Programme (HKACEP)

 

HKACEP, under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and subvented by Home Affairs Bureau of HKSAR Government was established since 2008, has been providing career, education and life skills supports to retired and retiring athletes. The programme has been providing various supports to over 1,000 athletes from 45 National Sports Associations since its launch.
