2021 POPULATION CENSUS - RECRUITMENT OF TEMPORARY FIELD WORKER POSITIONS

Positions:

(1) Chief Enumerator (1 100 positions)

(2) Checker (1 000 positions)

(3) Enumerator (10 000 positions)

(4) Enumerator (Census Service Centre) (1 400 positions)

(5) Centre Assistant (300 positions)

All of the above positions are non-civil service vacancies. The numbers in brackets are estimated figures only.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment. Applicants should possess a mature personality with the ability to work independently, and fulfill the following criteria:

(1) Chief Enumerator

  • In-service teachers and teaching assistants of local primary and secondary schools

(2) Checker

  • Students of full-time locally-accredited degree programmes, including final year students

(3) Enumerator; (4) Enumerator (Census Service Centre); and (5) Centre Assistant

  • Students of full-time locally-accredited degree or sub-degree programmes, including final year students

Owing to the nature of the work, applicants of the above positions should have good knowledge of written Chinese or English, be able to read both Chinese and English and be fluent in Cantonese and English. Priority will be given to applicants possessing fieldwork experience in the Pilot Survey for the 2021 Population Census, 2016 Population By-census or household surveys conducted by the Census and Statistics Department in the past 5 years.

Main Duties:

(1) Chief Enumerator

  • To train Checkers/Enumerators; and
  • To head a division, supervise the progress and quality of the work of the division, and ensure proper completion of census fieldwork.

(2) Checker

  • To edit and check accuracy of completed questionnaires;
  • To re-visit selected households to confirm accuracy of information collected by Enumerators; and
  • To verify selected self-enumerated questionnaires through field visits.

(3) Enumerator

  • To obtain census data through field visits or telephone interviews; and
  • To follow up on self-enumerated cases through telephone or field visits.

(4) Enumerator (Census Service Centre)

  • To obtain statistical data through telephone interviews;
  • To obtain census data through field visits (only if required);
  • To follow up on self-enumerated cases and conduct verification check on completed cases over the telephone; and
  • To handle telephone enquiries and appointment requests.

(5) Centre Assistant

  • To provide IT support and operate computer systems; and
  • To perform administrative and clerical duties, and provide receipt and dispatch services.

* The normal working hours may be varied to meet operational requirements in some particular positions, working areas or circumstances.

** Extra training allowances will be paid to candidates who have attended the training courses in venues provided by the Census and Statistics Department and have completed the whole employment period.


Rest Days and Alternative Holidays

Rest days and alternative holidays, if applicable, will be pre-arranged within the employment period, subject to the actual circumstances such as weather conditions and work arrangements.
